Why You’ll Love This Vampire Blood Berry Milkshake

  • It’s so fun and festive to make, and the kids will light up like a Christmas tree when they see it!
  • It’s made with just nourishing ingredients, including hidden veggies, and a protein boost
  • There are no artificial colors or flavors needed
  • It’s packed with antioxidants
  • It’s gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free, and can be made vegan, too!

Key Ingredients

  • Cherries – along with the raspberries, provide the main flavor and the bright red color. You can use strawberries & raspberries instead. Just keep the fruits red if you want the “bloody” look!
  • Hemp Hearts– they are no essential to the recipe, but they do provide a pretty tastless boost of healthy fat, iron, and omegas
  • Avocado – frozen avocado helps add thickness to the smoothie, without adding more fruit. With the avocado & hemp seeds you get a healthy fat to balance out the carbs, making this a blood sugar friendly treat
  • Almond extract – really brings out the cherry flavor here. If you can’t have nuts you can absolutely leave it out
  • Collagen – adds a boost of protein without taking away from the berry flavor. You could use a vanilla protein if you’re ok with a berries & cream flavor, but I found the collagen or an unflavored protein powder works best here!
  • Arrowroot– acts as a thickener, and is essential for the homemade strawberry syrup

Serves: 2

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Cherries, Frozen
  • 1/2 cup Raspberries, Frozen
  • 1/4 cup Avocado, Frozen, or 1/2 frozen banana
  • 2 Tbsp Hemp Hearts
  • 3 Tbsp Cherry Juice, Organic
  • 1/3 cup Collagen, Or unflavored protein
  • 1 tsp Almond Extract
  • 1/4 cup Cherry Juice, Organic
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp Arrowroot Flour
  • 2 Tbsp Water

Process

  1. Make syrup by warming juice on stove. Mix arrowroot and water together until dissolved, then add to warm juice. Stir and it will thicken. Set aside
  2. Blend all shake ingredients together until smooth
  3. Line rim with syrup, pour shake, top with coconut whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles, and enjoy!

Variations for Dietary Preferences

  • Cherries – can sub any red fruit – strawberries, or more raspberries
  • Hemp hearts – can sub for another seed like chia seeds or flax seeds, all of which add a nutritional boost, but can also be left out if you choose, without affecting the taste or texture
  • Almond extract– can be left out if you have a nut allergy.
  • Collagen – optional, as it adds a boost of protein, without taking away from the berry taste. You can leave it out, use an unflavored protein powder, or even a vanilla protein powder, if you’re ok with more of a berries & cream taste
