Banana Pudding Cottage Cheese Mousse
These Banana Pudding Cottage Cheese Mousse jars are thick, creamy, protein packed, and sure to curb that sweet tooth!
Naturally sweetened and gluten free, too, since I used my Homemade Gluten Free Nilla Wafers in the parfaits!
If you haven’t seen them before today, I am obsessed with the thick & creamy, velvety smoothness of cottage cheese mousse. These make for a great grab and go breakfast option, or for a blood sugar friendly sweet treat.

Banana pudding is such a nostalgic treat for me, taking me back to summers as a kid!
But don’t worry, not artificial flavored banana pudding mix is needed here!
Why You’ll Love This Banana Pudding Cottage Cheese Mousse
- It’s got 32g of protein per serving!
- It’s gluten free and naturally sweetened with banana and pure maple syrup
- You can tweak the recipe to your macronutrient desires
- You can omit the banana in the mousse itself and leave just the banana coins for topping
- You can use more or less protein powder
- You can add peanut butter to the mousse for a banana peanut butter flavor. YUM!
- You can use my high protein homemade whipped cream (found in THIS recipe)

Key Ingredients
- Cottage Cheese – it does not matter if you like cottage cheese or not! Once blended until smooth the chunky texture is gone. When blended with a fat source, like the cashew butter, and the added thickness from the protein powder, this mousse gets incredibly thick and creamy, and thickens even more overnight! Use full fat for the creamiest ice cream texture
- French Vanilla Protein Powder – the flavor is unbelievable! It tastes so smooth and creamy, and adds a boost of protein as well as delicious flavor. My code colleenF10 saves you sitewide off my favorite clean ingredient protein powder from Just Ingredients
- Pure maple syrup – adds sweet without adding refined table sugar. Pure maple syrup (not pancake syrup) is lower glycemic index than white sugar, so it’s easier on your blood sugar
- Banana – adds sweetness and that traditional Banana pudding taste! The riper the banana the sweeter it will be, and the less syrup you may need. Be sure to taste test!

How to Make Banana Pudding Cottage Cheese Mousse
- Blender cottage cheese, banana, syrup, protein powder, and vanilla extract together until smooth
- *the riper the banana the sweeter it is, so adjust syrup as needed. You can leave the banana out from blending and just top with banana coins, too. Use 3 tbsp maple syrup if you omit blending the banana*
- Crush some nilla wafers and layer into the bottom of your jars
- Pour mousse overtop, and refrigerate at least 3 hours (overnight is fine) for thicker texture
- When ready to eat top with banana coins, whipped topping, and more crushed wafers, and enjoy!

I love how easy it to just add all of the filling ingredients to a blender, mix, and pour!
Of course you don’t have to use my homemade nilla wafers, although the kiddos LOVE them, and I love that they’re steering clear from seed oils, refined flours & sugars, and other questionable ingredients.
There are a few brands that make healthier and gluten free ( if needed ) nilla wafer type cookies, too!
Variations for Dietary Preferences
- Cottage Cheese – the star of the show here, but you can use coconut cream here as well for that thick texture.
- OR check out my vegan banana pudding recipe HERE (not high protein, but delicious!)
- Banana – you can keep this lower sugar by omitting the banana in the mousse itself, and just use the banana coins for topping
- You can use low fat cottage cheese, but it won’t be nearly as thick
- Pure maple syrup – you can sub for honey or sugar free sweetener
