Cake Batter Protein Shake
This homemade cake batter protein shake is packed with nourishing ingredients.
It’s gluten free, has no added sugar, and can easily be made dairy free, too!
The shake itself is thick, creamy, naturally sweetened, and perfectly complimented with fun and tasty cake batter protein balls

The cake batter flavor is present within the shake, but the mini cake batter balls make it so much more fun!
Why You’ll Love This Cake Batter Protein Shake
- It’s packed with protein
- Kids will love it too. And yes, if you use a clean ingredient protein powder, that doesn’t contain gums or artificial flavors, then in my professional opinion this makes for a healthy treat for the kiddos, too!
- I use Just Ingredients brand. It’s made from 100% grass fed whey, has nothing artificial, and has added nutrition from chia, pumpkin, and collagen, too. You can save $ on the various protein flavors she offers with code ColleenF10
- It’s gluten free
- It’s naturally sweetened with bananas
- It can easily be made vegan but using a plant based protein powder. My favorite vegan protein powder is Ora Organic brand. Use this link to save 30% off your order

Key Ingredients
- Frozen Banana – adds natural sweetness, while keeping the shake thick and creamy, too
- Vanilla Protein Powder – Adds a boost of protein & vanilla flavor, making this both delicious and blood sugar friendly! It makes for a great post-workout shake, or a delicious macronutrient balanced breakfast
- I use Just Ingredients brand. It’s made from 100% grass fed whey, has nothing artificial, and has added nutrition from chia, pumpkin, and collagen, too. You can save $ on the various protein flavors she offers with code ColleenF10
- Coconut Milk – shaken in the can to incorporate the fat from the cream and the milk, too. The fat content will add to the creaminess of the shake
- Hemp Hearts – add a nutritional boost of iron, omega-3s, fiber, and multiple other vitamins and minerals. Hemp hearts are also a complete source of protein, meaning they provide all nine essential amino acids
- Almond Extract – brings out the cake batter taste

How to Make This Cake Batter Protein Shake
- First, make your cake batter cookie dough balls by combing all ingredients together, folding in sprinkles at the end
- Place in the fridge 10-15 minutes for easier handling, then roll into mini balls
- Blend your shake ingredients together, scraping the sides as needed
- Pour into a glass, top with optional coconut whipped cream topping, dye-free sprinkles, and mini cake batter balls
- Enjoy!

I love how easy it to just blend and pour!
Yes it’s an extra step to make the cookie dough balls, but they are just too fun to pass up! And they only take a couple minutes themselves.
Variations for Dietary Preferences
- Coconut – use any full fat milk of choice
- Hemp seeds – feel free to replace with flaxseeds or chia seeds, or omit all together without overly affecting the texture
- Protein powder – you can keep this vegan by using a vegan vanilla protein powder.
- You can omit the protein if you’d like. I recommend increasing the Hemp Hearts to 2-3 tbsp, as are a complete source of protein, meaning they provide all nine essential amino acids
- Cashew butter – you can use sunbutter or vanilla oat butter, or even almond butter
- Almond extract – butter extract will also add a distinct cake batter flavor

I guarantee you’ll rock your workout knowing you’ve got this Cake Batter Protein Shake to look forward too after!
